Relinquishing a Pet

Guideslines

Giving up a pet can be a difficult decision. Often there are practical solutions to many of the issues pet owners face. The staff at the Humane Society of Tulsa will assist you in any way we can. We can offer guidance and referrals to trainers, behaviorist and other professionals that might be able to help you with your "pet problems". You can find help on this website by checking our behavioral tip-sheets.

For those who make the difficult decision of surrendering their pet, the Humane Society of Tulsa is glad to be able to offer our services. We are pleased to be able to give individuals, forced to relinquish their pet, peace of mind when they must find a new home for their pet and we are happy to be able to offer a place of refuge for the pets.

The Humane Society of Tulsa operates a no-kill Adoption Center. This means that any animal taken into our custody may stay as long as necessary to find a new, permanent home. When an animal is accepted into the Humane Society of Tulsa it is immediately seen by our staff veterinarian. Each entering dog and cat is given vaccinations, testing, fecals and any other medical treatment they may need. They are bathed, groomed, receive a collar and identification, bedding and toys. All potential adopting families are screened by our experienced staff. The average stay at our Adoption Center is only two weeks before a new family is found.

Tulsa Humane Society

The Humane Society of Tulsa accepts many dogs and cats from animal control officers and city operated kill shelters at no charge. In order to afford to house these animals and provide medical care for all our "guests", we request that a donation be made for animals that come to us through private homes.

Animals are accepted into the Humane Society of Tulsa on an appointment-only basis. You will need to call 250-3647 or complete our online intake request form if you would like to place an animal for adoption with our organization.
